Several years ago I had dinner with the man who was the first Gideon in the Soviet Union. The Gideons are an international group of business and professional men who distribute Bibles. He told me that the Gideons of the Soviet Union were praying that someday the Gideons of the U.S. would have the same freedom to distribute Bibles as the Gideons of the Soviet Union. It seems that under the leadership of President Barack Obama the U.S. is declining in status as a world power, and the Soviet Union is increasing its stature as a world power. Could it be that God is blessing the Soviet Union and cursing the U.S.?
The following is from Wikipedia on Abortion in Russia. In 1920 abortion was made legal in Russia. The Soviet Union became the first country to have abortion available, on request, often for no cost. There was intense debate among government and medical officials surrounding its legalization. The main arguments used in opposition to legalizing abortion were that it would have a harmful effect on population growth or on the grounds that it was too medically harmful to the woman. At the time of the fall of the Soviet Union 86% of women over the age of fifteen had had at least one abortion. The average 25-year-old woman had had three abortions and some women had had more than twenty. The abortion issue has gained renewed attention in 2011. The debate has begun to sound like the debate in the U.S. The Soviet Parliament passed, and president Dmitri Medvedev signed, several restrictions on abortion into law to combat a falling birthrate. The restrictions include requiring abortion providers to devote 10% of advertising costs to describing the dangers of abortion to a woman’s health and make it illegal to describe abortion as a safe medical procedure. President Medvedev’s wife Svetlana Medvedev has taken up the pro-life cause in Russia in a national campaign against abortion called “Give Me Life!” and a “Day of Family, Love and Faithfulness” by her Foundation for Social and Cultural Initiatives in conjunction with the Russian Orthodox Church.
The following is from Wikipedia on Gay Rights in Russia. Russia has recently enacted a law that bans the distribution of “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations” to minors. The Russian statute in question makes it an administrative offense to hold any sort of public demonstration in favor of gay rights, speak in defense of gay rights and distribute material related to gay rights, or to state that gay relationships are equal to heterosexual relationships.
The following is from CNN News. President Barack Obama met with leaders of several Russian social activist groups an event that likely touched on the sensitive subject of gay rights. Obama, who has advocated gay rights and same-sex marriage, has said that “nobody’s more offended than me” by the Russian law.
In Syria President Barack Obama wants the U.S. to back terrorist groups that have been killing every Christian they gain power over. Russia is backing President Assad, who opposes the terrorist groups that are killing Christians in Syria. Is God blessing Russia because it is more righteous than the U.S. Voters in the U.S. have elected Barack Obama twice. God bring us to repentance.
